More Soundtracks by Alan Silvestri
Reviewed by Scott - Grade: B The soundtrack for The Abyss is a bold attempt by Silvestri to
create a magical underwater world, and in both the beginning and
the end, he manages to capture the dark weavings of this film.
However, the middle becomes lost as he continues through a
mixture of interesting themes and fast action cues. Though this
soundtrack really fits well with the film, it falls short of
being a score that is truly memorable. Don't get me wrong, it
really opens strong, and finishes with that enchanting choir
singing us into a deep lull of awe as the aliens show us their
true side. But as with the film, it ends abruptly and really
misses the point of giving us closure. All in all, a great score
by Silvestri, but not up to par with his other works, including my favorite-- Predator.
