Reviewed by Scott - Grade: C A solid soundtrack for what looks to be a great movie. The CD inserts are hilarious! Youth in Revolt is your standard typical coming of age movie that has a soundtrack to match. There are raw songs that don't sound polished, and a few token genre songs (rap, country, and classic love). Overall the songs are pleasing to listen to and upbeat. This is a formula soundtrack as I like to call it, and it fits nicely in the genre. While it is not as polished and doesn't hold up the same caliber songs that a soundtrack like Rushmore managed to compile, it is a solid entry in the genre. The two highlights of this soundtrack are the 1967 classic Les Cactus by Jacques Dutronc (don't know it? check out this bizarre tv appearance by Dutronc singing the song). If you get past the visuals the song is actually outstanding. John Swihart's Nick and Sheeni Make Love is a great piece of music to close out the soundtrack. It is typical teen love theme music, but it actually works nicely. I would go so far as to invoke the Rushmore comparison again but this is more of a love themed song and slower than the works of Mark Mothersbaugh. Of particular mention, I got a chuckle out of the CD insert for Youth in Revolt. There are some stills from the film and Nick has "commented" on them with quips such as "Sitting on the dock of a babe" and "Not Me - Nick" while standing in front of a trailer home with "God's Perfect" spray painted on it. If you are looking for something different to play while driving with the top down this summer, be sure to pick this one up. More Movie Soundtracks
